Tumbling and Pre-Gymnastics
Concentrates on the technical aspects of tumbling and preparing for Gymnastics
Class Descriptions:
Beg Tumbling: In the beginner tumbling class, students will work on building strength, balance, and flexibility.Skills emphasized include: handstand, cartwheel, bridge kick-over, backward roll push-up, and forward roll with a correct finish, just to name a few. Int Tumbling: This class is for students who have progressed beyond the beginner level. Students begin to learn more advanced skills such as back walkovers, front walkovers, limbers, roundoffs, and will drill back handsprings. There is also more emphasis on strength and flexibility. Advanced Tumbling:In the advanced tumbling class, students will always be sure to keep up with the basics such ashandstands, cartwheels and roundoffs, but will progress through to back handsprings and combination tumbling. Students will also focus on acro elements such as aerials and saltos. Pre-Gymnastics: This class is structured for students to learn the basic fundamentals of a gymnastic-like class. We will set up progression-based obstacle courses, games, and other fun activities that fit the capabilities of your tiny tots. Rhythmic Gymnastics: This class is structured for students to experience a unique blend of dance and acro. It combines elements of ballet, contemporary dance, basic acro skills, and the use of different hand apparatuses (ex: ropes, hoops, balls and ribbons). This class will demonstrate key developmental skills in a variety of areas. Some of these areas include focus, balance, flexibility, strength, agility and hand-eye coordination. |
Welcome Lia Yallourakis to the UDA Teaching Staff !
Miss Lia, former Valparaiso High School gymnast and Buckeye Gymnastics Team Coach will be joining the UDA team in August 2022! Lia started gymnastics at a young age, and participated competitively until her senior year of high school. She was part of consecutive state championship teams through Valparaiso High School, collecting multiple individual state titles as well. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Marketing, working for CBS Sports her junior and senior years. Her most recent experience includes being a team coach at Buckeye Gymnastics – Home of Olympic All-Around Champion Gabby Douglas. She spent the year in Columbus, Ohio training girls of all ages, traveling around the US to various competitions, and competing in State and National competitions where many of her gymnasts received winning titles. Lia also has local experience facilitating other recreational activities and events like camps and birthday parties. She is eager to join the UDA team and help these kids grow and have fun! The reason she continues to teach is because of the kids and her passion for development. She says there is no other feeling quite like helping young kids and athletes further establish dedication, determination, heart, leadership skills, and respect for others, not only in sports, but in life. |
