Ballet

Our ballet program is where it all starts.  Ballet is the foundation of all great dancers! This style of dance requires the most focus and discipline. Beginning classes will  incorporate some creative movement to allow students to gradually work into ballet structure.  This program...
-        Helps channel energy constructively.
-        Discipline learned during ballet training can be applied to other areas of life, school, work.
-        Improves posture, coordination, rhythm, and memory.
-        Develops strong and flexible bodies, and a knowledge of the correct way to exercise.
-        Teaches healthy respect for ones body and mind.
-        Develops poise and the ability to perform easily in front of others.
-        Performing teaches organization and responsibility.
-        Brings out a student's creative abilities.
-        Encourages an appreciation for classical music.
-        Develops a knowledge and appreciation of the great ballets and famous dancers.
-        Possibility of obtaining a scholarship in dance to a university or becoming a paid professional in one of the many professional dance companies.

With the increase in people's awareness that leading a good life includes leading a healthy one, many people are turning to ballet for its numerous benefits. Ballet provides a complete warm-up, called barre, which when executed properly, gradually gets the muscles from head to toe working. It is not just exercise for the heart and lungs, it includes exercises which help strengthen and increase flexibility of all the major muscle groups.

Ballet is a gradual process. If you wish for fast results, you will probably be in for disappointment. If you attend class regularly, you may not see results from class to class, but then suddenly, one week, you'll notice that you can do something you weren't able to before. Your body responds in each class with small gains which add up until you see the change. This gradual gaining of physical abilities is the healthiest method.

Ballet is also good exercise mentally. It requires a great deal of focus where your mind lets go of other thoughts. When class is over, your mind returns to the daily norm, but from a clearer, refreshed perspective. Personally, this is one of my favorite benefits - if ever I walk into ballet class upset or confused, when I walk out, my mind has cleared ad the world looks like a much brighter place.

Interested yet? Want to know how to get involved? It's simple - join a class! United Dance Arts offers classes for beginners.  They let you  observe a class or even take class as a drop-in. That way you can get a feel for what ballet class is like and whether you like the atmosphere of the class and feel like you can work with the teacher.

Unsure what to bring to class? Well, definitely you need a pair of ballet slippers. You will also want a leotard and tights. Wearing these will allow the teacher to observe your body and give suggestions on proper placement. If you have long hair, make sure to tie it up off your face and leave the jewelry at home.

Once you find a United Dance Arts class you feel comfortable in, you're on your way to a great start in the ballet world.
